Acquaintia

Solution for financial services

Lights out after hours. Overnight jobs still finish.

Offices and branches empty in the evening, but batch jobs, backups and updates still have to run. Acquaintia sleeps idle PCs, leaves alone the ones still working, and runs on infrastructure you control.

An example day An office day, and the PC that runs the overnight job
  1. Office PC: asleep from 00:00 to 07:50, woken by Acquaintia from 07:50 to 08:00, in use from 08:00 to 18:00, on, nobody using it from 18:00 to 18:30, asleep from 18:30 to 24:00.

  2. Overnight job PC: kept awake for critical work from 00:00 to 02:00, asleep from 02:00 to 07:50, woken by Acquaintia from 07:50 to 08:00, in use from 08:00 to 18:00, kept awake for critical work from 18:00 to 24:00.

  3. Branch PC: asleep from 00:00 to 08:50, woken by Acquaintia from 08:50 to 09:00, in use from 09:00 to 17:00, asleep from 17:00 to 24:00.

The problem

Every change goes through a review.

  • Overnight work

Reports, reconciliations and backups run after people leave, and can’t be cut off.

  • Security comes first

Software that runs on every PC has to pass a security review before it goes anywhere near production.

  • Branches and offices

Many locations, each with its own hours and its own electricity bill.

What does the work

The parts of Acquaintia that take this on.

How it is done

Asleep after hours, without the risk.

  1. Keep overnight jobs running

List the processes that must finish. While one runs, the PC won’t sleep, shut down or lock.

  2. Give each branch its hours

Policies for groups that rules fill by location, and a tariff for each site.

  3. Pass the security review

Multi-factor sign-in, permissions by role, client certificates for every agent, and a server you host yourself.

  4. Report the change

Estimated energy, cost and carbon against a baseline, exported as CSV.

Never interrupts, 15 seconds, with music. Idle PCs go to sleep, but one is in the middle of a backup and stays on. The Exception Handling card lists the processes that block sleep; once the backup finishes, that PC sleeps too.

On screen:

  1. 0:00 Idle PCs sleep. This one’s mid-backup.
  2. 0:03 Name the work that mustn’t stop. While it runs, the PC won’t sleep, shut down or lock.
  3. 0:09 Then it sleeps too, once the job is done.
  4. 0:11 Acquaintia. Idle PCs sleep. Critical work doesn’t.

Idle PCs sleep. Critical work doesn’t.

A PC running a backup stays on while the rest of the floor sleeps, and sleeps too once the job is done.

Questions

Where is our data held?

In the SQL Server database behind your Acquaintia server, which you host. The optional AI assistant is off by default and uses your own Azure OpenAI deployment.

Will it interrupt overnight jobs?

Not the ones you list. While a critical process runs, the PC won’t sleep, shut down or lock, and Acquaintia also waits while Windows reports work in progress such as updates and downloads.
